DMDK leader Vijayakanth, also an actor, initially sought medical attention at MIOT Hospital in Chennai on the 18th of last month for cold and cough in his lungs. After improvement, he was discharged on the 11th December. However, he was readmitted last night for a routine check-up, later confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus. Despite receiving treatment with a ventilator due to breathing difficulties, Vijayakanth, unfortunately, succumbed to the infection today while in the hospital’s intensive care unit. His body has been transported to his home in Saligramam.

Due to this, police security has been placed in front of Vijayakanth’s house, managing the emotional crowd and ensuring order.
